Rooster and Hen
Interpretation of a fragment of the mosaic "Rooster and Hen", 3rd century AD, Archaeological Museum El-Jem, Tunisia
“Three times the rooster cried — and everything vanished. Dust, haze, and darkness retreated before the sound, as if the night itself had been only a mirage.” (excerpt from “Viy” by N. V. Gogol)
The rooster is not just a bird. He is the Herald of the Sun, the messenger of Dawn. His cry is the call of Spirit: clear, inexorable, revealing the essence. He stands at the border of worlds — where night ends and You begin.
Beside him is the Hen. Silent. Breathing warmth. She is the Womb of Life, the cradle of the grain that will become the world. In her is the fertility of the earth, the self-sacrifice of the maternal body. Her silence is the wisdom that precedes the word.
Together they are a duet of eternity, a reminder that even the brightest dawn is born in darkness, and the most fragile seed requires warmth.
